Honda US

DaqPRO is the product of choice for the General Purpose engine group of American Honda. They have applied for all their offices and distributors across the States a DaqPRO monitoring environment for recording engine operating temperatures on various test products.

When a manufacturer wants to use a Honda engines in their own product, then a Honda technicians or a Distributor technician, tests the Honda engine on the manufacture's product. The test covers the operating temperature in various engine locations to ensure the engine will survive on the manufacturer's product. Because of the battery operated nature of the product data can be taken, displayed and analyzed without needing to be connected to a computer. This makes it the ideal choice for the Honda technicians who must travel to the manufacturer's location to complete their Honda engine compatibility tests.

The Honda representative told us "We have found the logging and recording capabilities of the DaqPRO to be a benefit for getting more accurate and complete information than our old system supplied."

Honda intends to use 6 different scenarios as detailed in the table below. Each one of these scenarios is a default setting. They will use the internal ambient temperature sensor in I/O-1 and anywhere from 2 to 5 type K thermocouples in the other inputs (depending on the Default they are using).

The Honda technicians using this system require it to be intuitive and not based on a very high level of computer literacy, Joe Carlin explained "Honda wants to make this system very simple and turn key. We envision adding two Icons on the Icon Bar of DaqLab entitled: DEFAULTS and SET COMMENT"

All 6 Defaults should have the following settings:

  1. All temperature graphs should have the same scale from -5 oC to +250 oC
  2. NO ALARMS checked (HIDE the ALARM SETTINGS)
  3. Sampling Rate 1/second
  4. No filtering and No averaging (leave Input Filter and Average boxes unchecked)
  5. Select Scale Mode – FULL SCALE
  6. Select Recording Mode – SINGLE MEASUREMENT
  7. Time: 04:10:00 HH:MM:SS
  8. For both table and Graphs, set the Unit Prefix on the Time axis to DATE.
  9. For both the table and Graphs, set the Units on Temperature to 0 or 1 decimal places
  10. Instead of the graph and table labels reading Temperature I/O-1, Temperature I/O-2, etc., have them read Ambient I/O-1, Spark Plug I/O-2, Oil I/O-3, etc. (Explanation in table below)
  11. Use all primary, easy to see colors for the graphs.
  12. On the export to EXCEL, remove the text that reads: ALARM LEVELS SETUP
  13. On the export to EXCEL, set the column widths so that all data is displayed, and display temperature to 0 or 1 decimal places.

The Six scenarios are detailed below.

Suzuki India

Their specific application was to monitor electronics control panel temperatures. They were experiencing repeated failures of the electronics panels. We persuaded them that fourtec data logging and sensor devices with accompanying software could solve their business challenges. The data enables one to take precise decisions.

As a result Suzuki India purchased 10 units. They are now tracking the temperature variations in different electronics panels and can relate to the data with greater knowledge and ability to rectify immediately failings. Staff has responded very positively to product implementations. They have also experienced measurable impact as a result of the implementation. After relating the failures with the temperatures, the maintenance personnel have improved the cooling of the panels and thus reduced the failures.

We first made contact by visiting and through discussing application related ideas with the decision maker there, the Manager-Maintenance. He was most attracted by a number of features including the display, ability to take external temperature, the huge memory and the wireless mode. The model met there needs as was and required no modifications to be made to it.

We were competing with Gemini, Cox and AZ. Appart from the features already mentioned they chose fourtec products over the competitors because of the added technical and application support provided.

Generally the Indian market is a growing one, with huge potential as the economy opens. Currently, there is a lack of regulations for the use of data loggers and being a highly price sensitive economy, price is the main driving force. Companies that have bought fourtec products from us are however very satisfied with the cost and reliability of the products. I expect that beyond the markets we already attend to there are many new markets developing which will need data logging tools. For example shop floor process parameters and VIZ - Torque, as well as dimensional measurements."
