Prigat Coca Cola - Wireless Solution

fourtec provides unique new solutions for Prigat Coca-Cola:
Electra is an electro- mechanical system supplier with a transport refrigeration and A/C division. Electra is the sole distributor for:
Thermo King - Refrigeration units for truck and trailers and A/C units for public transportation
Sor Iberica - Insulated trailers
Cold Car - Eutectic bodies for frozen transportation

We spoke with Allon Bar Sade from Electra about the unique new solution fourtec developed for one of Electra's customers, the Prigat division of Coca Cola. Coca Cola Prigat's field of activity is in the fruit based non carbonated beverage category, which includes juices, nectars and soft drinks.

In the past their refrigerated transport was managed by subcontractors. However, Coca Cola Prigat have come to the recent decision to establish their own refrigerated transportation organization. They now use vehicles with the distinctive quality of having two cells within each truck. Each cell has its own temperature; this means that within one truck there are two temperature zones. One zone is for frozen goods at -18?C and the other for cooled goods at +4?C. Coca Cola Prigat were seeking a flexible solution which would enable them to switch recording data channels between the two cells.

There were a number of problems facing Electra's customer, Coca Cola Prigat. First of all, the need for complete flexibility and control, enabling them to change manually the temperatures in each cell and set the different zone's thresholds. Secondly, they needed to maintain the cost effectiveness of the solution. Thirdly, they had to ensure that the two data streams could be presented on one graph and saved on one file, enabling the manager or person responsible for quality assurance to have centralized view. This would save time and enable the software program to retain its ease of use.

The first phase of this new venture was to equip a fleet of forty trucks with this solution. fourtec approached this specific challenge by developing a special device with an enhanced version of the wireless system, modified for this particular environment. Usually, to receive data from two locations, in this case from two cells, would require two separate units. To overcome this, fourtec connected an additional external temperature sensor to be attached to the data logger, with a 16m length cable. This would function instead of the internal sensor and would work in conjunction with the existing external temperature sensor. Now two external temperature probes could collect data, one via a extended lead, connected to the unit and the second working in the usual way.

fourtec also offered two possible management patterns for the solution one via the software and one to be managed manually.

The first would enable the manager to alternate the refrigeration temperature zones between the cells through the software. This was the best solution if policy would be changed permanently across the board. This way the company could just alter the software and levels of temperature per cell. However, in reality this was not a practical solution for Coca Cola Prigat, because their working system was more dynamic and fluid, needing something more flexible. The fleet managers receive the instructions they need to match their deliveries to demand. They may need to place products differently, some refrigerated, some frozen and alternate between making entire trucks one or two temperature zones. This would suit purposes such as ensuring a side door is more accessible, or providing a greater volume of goods at a certain temperature.

Furthermore, the company needed a simple and supple solution that would allow any person, from driver to administrator the ability to control it, whilst at the same time protecting authorized access to the software. Alternation of temperature zones could not be dependent on computer accessibility, limited by time, location or software know-how. Allowing anyone software authorization involved the risk of changing other set point parameters by mistake.

Given that the regular parameter requiring alternation was temperature zones in truck cells, the second manual solution proved to be most cost effective and efficient. fourtec provided a solution that ensured when changing the zones, the alarm level of the unit would also change accordingly. Alternating the alarms levels of the 2 zones could be made manually through the hardware not the software. This was achieved by adding a switch to the sensors cable, so that channel could be interchanged between the different cables going into the two sensors. This was the uniqueness of this system which led to a sale of 40 units and so impressed the customer that they intend to multiply this quantity within the year.

Pepsi - Turkey- Wireless Solution

The Pepsi plant in Turkey is second largest in the Middle East and produces the Pepsi for all of Turkey. Pepsi have used the wireless system in the production of the Pepsi concentrate, one liter of this concentrate can produce a ton of Pepsi. The MicroLog is used in cold storage and three MicroLogs with cradles are also attached to the plant walls. The transmitted data and produced reports are supplied to HACCP and ISO regulators.
